GTA IV Cost 100 Million? WTF?

In an interview with The Times, producer Leslie Benzies revealed that Rockstar Games spent $100 million on the development of Grand Theft Auto IV.

“It’s like making a theatre production, a few movies and an album all to fit into one package,” he says. He hasn’t a clue how much GTA IV has cost to make but hazards a guess at $100m. About 1,000 people have had a hand in developing it. The perfectionism Houser and Benzies demand of their teams is astonishing.

Crysis on Xbox 360?

There has been plenty of talk about the poor sales PC games are experiencing these days. On the contrary, blockbuster console games sell easily million of copies within days after launch. The latest PC game developer to learn this lesson is Crytek, which decided that Crysis should be a PC exclusive. It seems, this will be their last PC-only game. The reason? Crytek president Cevat Yerli explains:

We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.

The Cake May Not Be a Lie…

Valve has confirmed Portal will return. The form in which it will appear is as of yet unknown. It could be an unlockable goody in the next Half-Life, it could be a full fledged sequel, it could be a real Portal gun sold at gas stations, who knows!? What is known is that the next installment of Portal will be more than just puzzles, perhaps actual enemies besides those monotonous turrets? They also went on to tell EuroGamer that they’re working on their own schedule, so any games will come out whenever they say it’s done. They talked a bit about Half-Life and the current plan is a Team Fortress 2 Map Pack for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360.

Wanted: Local Gamer, Must Not Nade Spam, Noob Pwning Preferred.

Are you looking for local gamers? Perhaps some hanging out in your hometown? Want someone to have a beer with while you play? Need someone who doesn’t quite compare to you so you can feel better as you get pwned online? Have I got the website for you. HaLocal.com. Registration is quick and easy, enter your Gamertag, City/State, and email. Soon you’ll get your password in an email and you’ll be able to log in, edit your profile, and find those elusive local gamers. As an added bonus, the site also tracks your stats! It can show you nifty charts, you’re rank/skill, KPD ratio, Wins/Losses, all kinds of goodies.

I tried it out and it seems pretty nice. Since I live in out in the sticks I thought it would be cool to see if someone around here played, that’s even close to my age. Luckily I found about 4 here, since the site is still new I’m hoping I’ll find more.

Even if you never use it, it’s worth looking into because it’s a great idea that could be implemented into other games or all of Xbox Live… or gaming in general.

Mortal Kombat: Fatality.

Seems that in Johnstown Colorado two teens, 16 and 17, killed a 7 year old girl supposedly by using “Mortal Kombat” moves. If you’re visiting PTT, you better damn well know what Mortal Kombat is, so I’ll skip the explanation. Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16, each received adult charges of felony child abuse causing death. The victim was Heather Trujillo’s half sister, Zoe Garcia.

It seems they teens were drunk, and Zoe had begged the older two to stop wrestling with her, but they didn’t. According to the affidavit, an autopsy was conducted and revealed that Zoe had several dozen bruises, a broken wrist, bleeding in her neck muscles, bleeding under her spine, and swelling of the brain. When Roberts was questioned about why he didn’t stop beating his friends sister, he said “I don’t know, I was drunk”.

If these two are convicted, they face 48 years in prison.

I’m pretty sure the time for blaming video games for being a stupid ass has passed. There’s no evidence that they were imitating any game, it seems that they were playing games around the time that this took place. Prosecutors say they were imitating Mortal Kombat… when’s the last time somebody played Mortal Kombat?!

I feel bad for the girl, I really do, it’s horrible that a life ended so soon because some punk has brain damage. So let’s go ahead and throw video games out the window. That leaves us with drunk. My aching ass. I know alcohol affects everyone in different ways, no matter how plastered I get, I always keep my keys on me, because I won’t even get in a car if I’m drunk, and I don’t want anyone taking my car. Ask anyone I’ve drank with, I may do stupid crap, but I won’t put lives at risk.
So you expect me to believe this toolbox was drunk enough to kill his friends little sister? If he’s the drunk one (no solid information on the older sister) why didn’t Trujillo step in and put a stop to it.
How were they drunk enough to kill the girl, but clever enough to try to revive her by running her head under cold water and giving her CPR before calling the mother?

So alcohol is now out of the picture, because being so drunk you kill the girl but being sober enough to try to save her is a pure contradiction.

That leaves us with a jackass looking for a way out. 48 years, make it life, and put his ass in there, he’ll go straight from Fatality to Brutality in the showers.

This kind of thing shows how troublemakers, prosecutors, and the media play on the sadly misinformed society. Why is there no mainstream political movement about video games not being the root of all evil?

Duke Nukem Forever Resurfaces

Brought to you by Gamespot.com
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Link

Last night in Garland, Texas, developer 3D Realms had its Christmas Party. According to the developer community manager Joe Siegler, the celebrations were like many previous events, full of mirth and merriment and (presumably) freely flowing beverages.

However, there was one major difference between this year’s 3D Realms bash and those previous. Apparently the evening revelry was capped by a brief teaser for the studios’ infamously delayed first-person shooter, Duke Nukem Forever.

“Several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party,” said Siegler in a post on the official 3D Realms Web site. “We’d like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John).”

Why does a closed-door viewing of a title widely regarded as vaporware matter to a gaming public now allowed inside? It matters because around noon CST tomorrow, 3D Realms will be opening its virtual doors to the world to show off the Duke Nukem Forever teaser. The preview will be the first publicly screened DNF video since the 2001 Electronic Entertainment Expo and the first footage of the latest version of the oft-reworked game.

Duke Nukem Forever

“After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it’s just a teaser, rest assured more is coming,” said Siegler before thanking DNF fans for their “continued patience.” 3D Realms also released a new screenshot (above) from the latest version of the game, which shows its bare-armed, cigar-chomping hero.
